This walking tour is suitable for people who stay one day in Athens. Within a day, take the opportunity to cross the city and see the modern and ancient history aspect of Athens. Make a brief visit to the Syntagma Metro station with the interesting exhibits, and then proceed to see the impressive Parliament building and the “Evzones” – bodyguards of the President – admiring their beautiful national costumes. If you are lucky, you will be present on the change of the guard taking place every hour. Next stop is the National Garden of Athens, the green lung in the heart of the city where you will enjoy a short walk. Leaving the National Garden walk to the Herod Atticus beautiful street where is located the president’s residence, the former palace.
Your guide will afterwards lead you the way to the stadium of Athens, built of marble, where the 1896 Olympic Games were held (short stop for photo shooting). You will then go to the beautiful classical temple of Olympian Zeus, with its huge columns. Behind, stands a Roman monument in Athens, the Hadrian’s Arch, considered as the boundary between the Greek and Roman part of the city. Within a few minutes you will arrive in Plaka, where you will take a tour there as well and finally end to visit two of the most important cathedrals of Athens. Enjoy some free time before heading back to metro station and your hotel.
